Sixth Form Creative Media Production students have been working with lecturers and degree students at Teesside University to film footage for a music video as part of their current coursework.

Accompanied by Miss Whitaker, our Director of Learning for Media, and working alongside Year 13 Music students, who performed "Tearing My Heart' by Twenty One Pilots, around 30 Sixth Formers took part in the studio session, pictured above. Visiting the University allowed them to work with industry standard film cameras and professional sound, lighting and recording equipment. It was also a great opportunity to get an insight into working as a film production team in a purpose-built environment. Students are currently editing the footage in lessons and experimenting with special effects. Soon, our Year 10 and 11 Creative Media students will begin their unit on Moving Image Production, and they too will be working in teams to plan, film and edit a music video at Teesside University.

Working with Media Teacher, Mrs Davies, Year 11 students have been writing and designing their own e-magazine for teenagers as part of their Digital Publishing unit. Students investigated journalistic writing styles and wrote an article on a topic of their choice, before proceeding to design a double page spread using our Adobe Creative Suite software, which is used by professional designers in industry. Students used various photo-manipulation techniques to create some outstanding page designs and went on to add a variety of interactive elements for additional teen audience appeal.

Sixth Formers have also turned author-illustrators in their most recent print-based media project, by producing their own graphic narrative product. Some have created children's books, whilst others have opted for innovative teenage narratives or those with satirical humour for an adult audience. Both of these projects develop high level writing skills alongside specialist design knowledge.
