This month, a group of Sixth Form students who are studying Level 3 Professional Cookery at King James, have participated in a trip to "The Cellar Door', a fine dining restaurant in the heart of Durham.

The students ate a three-course meal, choosing their dishes from an exquisite set menu. Some of the dishes which the students chose included mint risotto, calamari, confit duck leg, falafel and a selection of other dishes.

Whilst eating their meal, the students were prompted to analyse the atmosphere and décor of the restaurant so that they could compare it to other eating establishments. They were also kindly given tips for serving by waiting staff, which they could use in both their coursework and in real life situations. Each student thoroughly enjoyed the meal and they are eager to taste food from more restaurants in the future.

Mrs Lamb, Director of Learning for Food Technology said, "The Level 3 Catering course is a brand new option for Sixth Form students this year. The cohort are all keen cooks with a passion for food, as well as a desire to try new dining experiences and take inspiration from different cuisines in the local area. They have returned from their visit to "The Cellar Door' with some fantastic ideas of their own for complex dishes, which they can't wait to try creating in the kitchen."
