Three young golfers from King James I Academy have recently triumphed at the regional level of the British Heart Foundation Golf Competition, which was held at Castle Eden Golf Club in Hartlepool.

Brothers Shane and Daniel W, in Years 11 and 12, and Daniel H, Year 11, who are all keen individual golfers, united to compete against ten other teams in the competition. Last year, the team came second in the annual event but, as 2013 regional winners, they are now looking forward to competing in the final, which will be held at Close House Golf Club on July 15th. The trio also achieved first, second and third place in the individual competition.

The boys first discovered golf when it was introduced to the PE curriculum at King James three years ago. Teachers report that their natural talent was evident from the beginning however, their initial interest in the sport has now become a passion and the boys try to play as much as possible.

Mr Bushby, who accompanied the team to the event said: "The boys raised a lot of money for the British Heart Foundation and their attitude and behavior, in addition to their excellent play, was exemplary throughout the day. We are extremely proud of our young sportsmen and wish them luck in the final."
