March 2021

Each year, World Book Day celebrates the power of storytelling and the pleasure that reading brings us by giving young people the opportunity to access a book for free. This year World Book Day is on Thursday 4th March.

Mr Wheatley has a supply of book tokens ready to give to students when they return to school. They can either swap their book token for one of the exclusive World Book Day books or they can get £1 off any book or audiobook of their choice costing £2.99 or more in bookshops and supermarkets.

There are some fantastic free audiobooks that students can listen to as part of World Book Day (WBD) including ‘Running on the Roof of the World’ by Jess Butterworth and ‘A Sprinkle of Sorcery’ by Michelle Harrison. Visit https://www.worldbookday.com/world-of-stories/

For those who prefer to read, when they receive their tokens at King James, they will be able to redeem them for one of this year’s WBD books, pictured here. Extracts from these books and information about the author is available at https://www.worldbookday.com/books/ so students can begin to think about which book they will choose!

Mr Wheatley is also going to run a competition for students revolving around this year’s theme of ‘Sharing Stories’. To enter the competition students should send him a photo of them sharing a story with someone. This may be reading to a parent, a sibling or even their pet; or any other creative way of sharing a favourite book with others such as via telephone or video call!

The most creative picture will receive a National Book Tokens card which they can use to purchase more books for themselves, or to share with others. Students should send their photographs to daniel.wheatley@kingjames1academy.com before Friday 12th of March.
