Three exceptionally talented Year 9 artists were given the opportunity to take part in Newcastle Fashion Week recently. Accompanied by Miss Welch and working alongside successful designers from the fashion industry, Bethany, Amber and Holly were challenged to a fast and furious day, jam-packed with fashion industry tasks.

During the morning workshop, the team were challenged to produce research, trend analysis and magazine graphics with a view to designing and creating a bespoke new fashion item. Our team focused on the cultural clothing designs of Native Americans, inspired by an image found in a Vogue magazine from the 1940's, which led to an innovative magazine spread entitled 'Native to Creative'. Students went on to use their newfound knowledge to design three dress options, and the stylish concepts were then combined to create a mock dress, with images used in the magazine spread.

The girls also had the opportunity to show off their talents on the cat walk, where they were photographed in in iconic Vogue poses. If selected, photographs may become part of the front cover of the Fashion Week magazine. Overall, the day was a great success and a real insight into the diverse roles available within the fashion industry. We look forward to seeing our designs in print.
