Students learned how to take blood on the fantastic fake arm!

Around 80 Health & Social Care students in Years 9, 10 and 12 have recently taken part in an exciting taster session with the Medical Mavericks.

This mobile educational organisation visits schools to deliver taster sessions that allow students to try out a variety of medical procedures such as checking reflexes and taking blood pressure. They also get the opportunity to take blood from the ingenious ‘fake arm’ equipment, pictured here, and try out keyhole surgery simulation.

Our students were fascinated by the procedures and by the presentation and Q&A session that followed on the variety of careers in the Health sector. Many of the students already had an interest in the profession and had opted into Health & Social Care as a result of this, however many commented afterwards that the session had reinforced their ambitions to enter the sector.
