Students have been developing skills in British Sign Language.

Last term Miss Mafham offered our students the opportunity to learn sign language after school each Friday and they are loving it.

Students have been learning British Sign Language (BSL), which is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression, and body language. It has it's own grammatical structure and syntax and is the preferred sign language within the UK.

There are an estimated 9 million hearing impaired people in the UK and even the best lip-readers can catch less than half of the words said to them, so the ability to communicate using sign language is an excellent skill to develop.

Interest in the sessions is growing with new students choosing to join the group every week. Many of our teachers have also expressed an interest in taking part from September.
