As part of our Aim Higher programme, students in Years 10-13 have enjoyed a two day residential trip to Edinburgh. There they explored the city and visited Queen Margaret University.

At the University, which is located in the heart of the city, students were involved in a number of informative workshops around the campus, discussing topics relating to the higher education application process and specific degree courses. They were also able to visit the academic areas on a campus tour and meet current university students, which gave them a valuable insight into University life overall.

As part of the trip, the group visited some of Edinburgh's famous attractions including Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile and Camera Obscura, Edinburgh's fascinating museum of optical illusions. They were also given free time to explore the city that could become home for three years should they choose to study there; this offered a taste of independence and the opportunity to build confidence in their ability to live away from home.

A visit to the campus grounds of the University of Edinburgh also gave students the opportunity to see the contrast between the two universities.

Our Aim Higher residential excursions are extremely beneficial for our students; they help to raise aspirations and prepare them for their future, whether they choose to pursue a degree or continue higher education in another way. Trips take place throughout the year to Universities across the UK including Leeds, York, Liverpool and Northumbria.
