Inspired by Author, Joe Hill

American Author, Joe Hill was promoting his new book entitled Strange Weather.

A group of our students have recently attended a talk and book signing at Waterstones in Durham City with American author and comic book writer, Joe Hill.

The author, who is the son of renowned author Stephen King, has followed in his father's footsteps to write gripping horror stories, including his latest book entitled Strange Weather.

Students were also given a tour of the store and encouraged to explore by genre and search for different types of books to broaden their interests. Staff also discussed the books that other young people are reading at the minute in line with current trends, and discussed how books are purchased and sold as well as the organisation involved in events such as author visits.

Students enjoyed browsing the different sections of the store before selecting some new books for our Academy Library. It was a big responsibility for the group as they were making decisions to benefit the whole school, however they returned to school with an exciting collection from a diverse range of genres.
