Students at King James I Academy have raised £541.47 for the If U Care Share Foundation in one of the many initiatives organised by the Academy to promote good citizenship and community involvement.

This particular initiative was organised by a group of Media Studies students who wanted to work together within their department to raise money for a local charity. Following class discussion and nominations, the team of students who are between 14 and 18 years of age, voted to support the If You Care Share Foundation, which provides support services to local families who have tragically been affected by suicide.

The team originally set themselves a target of £200, however this was quickly met and students increased their fundraising goal to £500, which was also exceeded. Funds were raised via a number of activities including the production of personalised greeting cards, a raffle, sponsored silence and the production of a fundraising Year book and Leavers' DVD for graduating students.

Emily B, one of the team members who attends the Sixth Form at the Academy said, "I have really enjoyed being part of the fundraising team and feel proud of what we have achieved by working together. It was great to be able to work with students in different year groups and to be able to help such an important local charity in the process."
