PE Department staff will now attend the County Awards evening in January to compete against other local winners for the County title..

King James I Academy has recently won an award in the ongoing Active Durham competition. The Academy was declared local winner in the Secondary School category for outstanding contribution to Sport, Physical Activity and Physical Education.

The annual competition, which is run by County Durham Sport, recognises the contribution made by organisations, clubs and individuals in promoting and delivering opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity in their community. Each year, competition organisers receive hundreds of nominations for the various categories and award winners are first selected from each local area; these are then invited to attend the County Awards, which are set to take place at the Gala Theatre in Durham City in January 2018.

King James was recognised not only for the high quality and diverse PE curriculum which it delivers to students, but also for the wide variety of opportunities and excellent facilities which are extended to the local community out of school hours.

Staff from the PE Department were delighted to receive the award on behalf of the Academy and the many clubs and individuals who help to make King James such an outstanding sports facility for residents of Bishop Auckland and the surrounding area.
