Students and staff at King James I Academy have recently raised a total of £241.56 for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in the national World's Biggest Coffee Morning event.

Sixth Form students served coffee and cake to their peers and to Academy staff in the Sixth Form Common Room throughout the day, and a selection of cakes and biscuits were available at morning break and lunch time in the dining hall for younger pupils.

Sixth Form Mentor, Linda Dixon, who helps to organise the event each year said, "Our Sixth Formers are always keen to help out at fundraising events but this one attracts a large number of volunteers and donations. It's a sad fact that many of our students know someone who has been affected by cancer so this charity is close their hearts."

Fundraising activities are a major feature on the Academy calendar and students work hard to raise money for a wide variety of good causes. Currently, Sixth Formers are raising funds for a volunteering trip to Thailand where they will work with children in poverty stricken areas, and students in Years 7-11 are in the process of selecting a local charity to benefit from their efforts this academic year.
