Year 6 pupils and their families enjoyed a host of activities.

Our annual Year 6 Open Evening Event was a huge success, welcoming around 500 visitors to King James to tour our school and participate in engaging activities inspired by children's literature.

Alongside the opportunity to talk to members of staff and meet our current students, visitors were able to take part in a wide variety of learning experiences, such as making ice cream in seconds using dry ice at the "Mad Hatter's Tea Party' in Food Technology; creating new "Willy Wonka' style sweets in Art; and dressing up to become a green-screen comic book superhero in Media.

Our visitors also got hands on with our lab equipment in Science, enjoying a number of practical experiments such as testing the effects of exercise on blood pressure and heart rate, and dissecting organs in Biology; and exploring magnetic forces and electricity transference in Physics. There was also an opportunity to try robotic programming and take part in some of the fun "Active Maths' challenges that our students enjoy in their lessons.

Many discovered a talent for dance in the invigorating Brazilian Dance sessions which ran throughout the evening in our Drama and Performing Arts Department, and left our Music Department with the ability to play songs from The Jungle Book. In the Library, visitors were able to meet best-selling children's author, Niel Bushnell.

We hope our visitors enjoyed the evening and we look forward to welcoming them as Year 7 students at King James next September. Please feel free to visit our website and gallery for more photographs and information from this event.
