As part of Mr Shearer's Aim Higher programme, Year 12 students have recently visited York St John's and the University of York to learn about the degree courses on offer.

Students enjoyed campus tours, were able to view student accommodation and took part in various workshops designed to help them choose the right University and degree course. They also received valuable tips on the application process, including how to write that all-important personal statement to ensure success.

As usual, the group stayed overnight in halls of residence and enjoyed plenty of free time to explore York city centre before regrouping for an evening meal at Nando's. The overnight stay is an important feature of Mr Shearer's Aim Higher trips, as it gives students the opportunity to experience life in the city that could become home for three years or more should they choose to study there.
