Year 9 students, Nathan K and Jak C have spent the last term developing their mechanical knowledge and skills by building a mini-motorbike as part of a new initiative which nurtures the talents and ambitions of aspiring young mechanics.

The boys researched the cost for the project before negotiating a price to buy the bike with Chris, a local seller who was so impressed by the idea of a mechanics project and the attitude of the boys, that he decided to donate the bike instead, which was a welcome surprise.

The boys worked on the project with Mr Connell, one of our Site Maintenance Team, who is a motorbike enthusiast himself, and together they completed the project to an exceptional standard. In fact, a builder working at the Academy saw this photograph being taken and made an offer to buy the bike with a profit of £100! This will help to bring our Brazilian visitors to King James in July. Nathan and Jak are already planning the next motorbike project for September.
