The Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Councillor John Lethbridge, has recently visited King James to plant a tree as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Mayor was welcomed to our school by a number of students from different year groups, who not only witnessed the special event, but who were also invited to claim their place in the history books by being directly involved in the planting of the young Oak tree.

The sapling, which was chosen specifically by the Mayor for its historic relevance to Bishop Auckland, now takes its place among the existing Oaks that lie within the grounds of our historic school. Before leaving, the Mayor was careful to enlist the help of some of our students in caring for the young tree, especially over the summer months, until it is well established in its new home.

The Mayor was joined by Headteacher, Mr Grieveson, and students Chloe, Sam, Jordan, Amy, Chris, Paul, Evie and Laura.
