Mr Shearer's Aim Higher residential visits take place throughout the year to a host of universities across the UK. The trips raise aspirations by giving students an opportunity to sample university life.

Recently, students in Years 9, 10 and 12 visited the historic city of Edinburgh and two of its prestigious universities. The group travelled by train to the city to encourage confidence in independent rail travel, and on arrival, they enjoyed a city walk, which included a visit to the famous German Christmas Market in Princess Street, followed by some time to explore.

The next day saw all of the group take part in a guided tour of Queen Margaret University to view the fantastic facilities, and a Q&A session with current students who talked about their degree courses and university life as a whole. Year 12 students went on to visit Edinburgh University with Mr Shearer, pictured below with four of the Year 10 participants proudly donning their tartan! The trip also included a visit to the famous Camera Obscura Museum in the Royal Mile, which is always a hit with our students.
