A-Level Maths students are celebrating another successful year in the national UKMT Maths Challenges.

Once again, our A-Level Maths students are celebrating great success in the prestigious UKMT Maths Challenges, which recognise the abilities of the top Maths students in the country.

The Mathematical Olympiad for Girls was introduced by the Trust in 2011, to help schools nurture the talents of enthusiastic young female mathematicians. Two students in Year 12 participated in the event and both Emma B and Jessie G received certificates of participation and gained experience in solving more advanced problems.

Students also achieved one gold, two silver and three bronze certificates in this year's UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. Over 82,000 pupils from across the UK returned scripts for the Senior Maths Challenge with the top 10% receiving a gold certificate, the next 20% achieving silver, and the next 30% bronze. Year 13 student, Iwan M received Best in School, Best in Year, and a gold certificate; he was also invited to sit the follow-on round which was reserved for the top 6% nationally. Daniel B received Best in Year and a silver certificate, as did Ryan B. Finally, Lucas B, Thomas M and Emma B all received bronze certificates.

Most recently, Thomas, Iwan, Ryan and Daniel participated in the Further Maths Support Programme's Senior Team Maths Challenge, which was held in Durham. The students competed in three rounds, a group round, a shuttle round and a cross-number round, in which they almost achieved a perfect score.

Overall, the team finished in 7th place, which is a great improvement on last year's 15th place. All four students worked well together on challenging maths questions that tested not only their mathematical knowledge but also their teamwork.
