This month, we celebrated World Book Day with a variety of reading and creative writing projects in school including an exciting writing competition, which was launched in assemblies by Mr Grieveson.

In a series of discussion-based assemblies for all key stages, students established their own writing theme for the competition which they then used to produce a synopsis for a novel. The winners were selected for their imaginative concepts and the written quality of their synopsis. Congratulations to first prize winner, Emily A in Year 7 who won £25, Adam W, Year 7 who claimed the second place prize of £10 and Jaide A, Year 9 who was awarded £5 for third place. Congratulations to our winners and well done to all who entered.

Across King James, students also took part in a variety of activities in the library and in English lessons, and received a free book token which they were able to exchange for one of two books, specially selected for teenagers by the World Book Day Ltd charity. This meant that students could claim a free copy of either 'Killing the Dead' by Marcus Sedgwick or 'Geek Girl: Geek Drama' by Holly Smale.
