Last term, fifteen Year 10 students and two Sixth Formers enjoyed a two day trip to Edinburgh University as part of Mr Shearer's 'Aim Higher' programme.

The programme, which runs throughout the year, inspires students in Years 9-12 to begin thinking about higher education options by giving them a taste of university life in a variety of cities across the UK. In Edinburgh, students took a tour of the University campus and spent time exploring the city to get a glimpse of life as an Edinburgh resident. The group also visited the fantastic interactive visitor attraction, 'Camera Obscura', which is filled with optical illusions.

These trips often help young people to develop personal ambition and to focus on their future, but they also promote confidence and self-belief, and allow them to experience a little independence, often for the first time.
