King James has been awarded the British Council's prestigious full International School Award for the second time, in recognition of our work to bring the world into the classroom. The award is a badge of honour for schools that promote international education, for example through visits, projects and links with partner schools overseas.

Our school was originally awarded the three-year accreditation in 2011 for our links with Jamaica, USA, France, Ireland, Spain, Poland and Italy. Our work to strengthen these links over the past three years, combined with new links formed with Belgium, The Philippines and Brazil, has earned us renewed accreditation until 2017.

Academy projects involve Languages, Creative Arts, Religious Studies, Sociology, Geography and History, alongside youth democracy, conservation and enterprise projects such as the Jamaica Difference Enterprise Project, which generates income to help support families in Montego Bay.

Our International Development Co-ordinator, Debbie Connell said, "Engaging our students in global learning and understanding of other cultures and communities helps them to understand their place in the wider world. We are delighted that all the hard work and enthusiasm of our students, staff and international partners has been recognised by the British Council."
