Following a realistic application and interview process, a team of Year 8 students has been chosen to represent our Academy at this year's Future Business Magnates (FBM) Competition, which is organised by Durham County Council in conjunction with local business partners.

We have enjoyed considerable success in the FBM competition in past years. With two victories and a number of commendations, our students have a proven track record as entrepreneurs. Each year, the number wishing to participate increases, however competition rules limit the size of each team, which means places are very much in demand.

The eight successful candidates will be led by Business Studies teacher, Mrs Lobb: "The application process was an excellent way to fairly select the team," she explained, "but it also gave students a taste of the challenges to follow, as formal presentations are all part of the fun."

Mrs Lobb has previous experience of FBM as she assisted Mrs Mulryan in guiding last year's team with their ingenious designer shoe company, "Carbon Footprint', which will be officially launched as an ongoing online business very soon.

On November 7th, the excited 2013/14 team, pictured here, will be attending the official launch event at the Excel Centre in Newton Aycliffe. There they will discover the theme chosen for this year and be introduced to their business partner who will act as mentor for the duration of the competition, which culminates in a prestigious awards ceremony in July 2014. We wish our young entrepreneurs the best of luck and will publish regular updates on their progress.
