Having been postponed on the previous two dates, the second Staff vs. 6th form football took place in brilliant condition, just one day before the summer half term holidays.

Commentry from the Second Half - J. Middleton

The teachers having won the last two games against their student counterparts 16-1 and 7-1, were confident of another victory, however the starting line-up was much depleted, with members of the squad missing for a host of reasons. Holes in the starting line ups and playing squad were filled with year 13 students, Ashley R, Adam B and Ben C

The students team although having lost on both their previous meeting against the experienced teachers, still possessed a threat as they possess a lot of good players who's true potential is starting to show through with the collection of league titles and cup competition winners medals they have been collecting in the Saturday and Sunday leagues over the past two seasons.

The first half saw a sea saw game with the woodwork being struck no fewer than 3 times, twice by the teacher's team, and a good effort by year 12 student Scott W from the left hand corner of the penalty area that crashed against Mr Laybourn's crossbar. The action continued with the 6th Formers having to clear off their goal line twice, and they had the ball in the back of the teachers net only the goal to be judged off side following an indirect free-kick.

With the first half coming to a close, the 6th form team with their drive and determination were starting to edge the encounter, especially down the left hand side with good work coming from Jo Smith, other students having a big impact on the game at that time included, Scott W, Liam G and Tyler T.

The first half ended 0 - 0, and with the game in the balance both team made changes to their line ups, including Adam B of the 6th form replacing the industrious and skilful Mr Saunders

The second half started and the 6th Form team almost scored from a looping cross/shot from Kieran F who was brought on at half time. Another chance fell soon after to Liam G who headed wide of the goal. After the two early chances for the students Mr R and Scott C were starting to control the game with their skill and work rate, and midway through the second half Scott C put the teacher's team into the lead with a long range shot that curled into the corner of the net. At this point in the match, it looked like the teachers would see out the game in relative comfort.

However, the 6th Form team had other intentions, and they equalised with around 15 minutes left to play when, when a strong kick from debutant and reliable goalkeeper Dylan C found Daniel W, whose perseverance in never giving up on the long ball was rewarded when he put the ball into the back of the net.

And the 6th Form team took the lead with only moments of the match remaining when Jo S found the back of the net following a goalmouth scramble to spark noisy celebrations on the side

lines as supporters of the 6th form team sensed the impossible might actually happen.

The student team hung on, in the closing moments of the game to see out a memorable victory over the teacher's team, in an entertaining and competitive match.
