An Excellent Sports Day

July 2018

Our annual Academy Sports Day took place on the last day of term and our young athletes competed with great determination and sportsmanship in a number of track events from 100m sprints to relay races.

Following the field events and 1500m races, which had taken place two days before, only 12 points lay between first and second place; these points were added to those awarded on Sports Day which meant that competition for the House Trophy was particularly fierce.

On the day, we saw excellent performances across all year groups and this led to the final points being closer than ever. However, at the end of a wonderful day, victory lay with Hatfield.

Whilst the final scores were being verified, students watched the customary Teacher's Race, a 200m relay, which really brought out the competitive spirit of our staff!

Overall, an excellent day was had by all, including the many spectators who turned out in force to support our athletes with the colour-coded face paint, house banners and flags that have become a King James tradition. We were particularly proud to see students demonstrate such a high level of support and enthusiasm for their peers; this is something that we encourage in all aspects of Academy life.

This year, the event was extra special as it marked the long-awaited completion of our new playing fields. This improves our sports facilities even further, and it will allow us to add variety to our PE provision by including athletics and field events throughout the academic year.
