On March 23rd, hundreds of our students took part in a giant Mexican wave to help raise money for Sport Relief 2018. The spectacular event was organised by Year 9 students who are all members of the Academy Council.

Armed with red ribbons, balloons and wristbands, which were sold to raise funds in the build up to the event, our students and staff joined forces to create a human chain around our central courtyard at the end of the school day. Spurred on by the sunshine, they then performed a spectacular mile-long Mexican wave by completing six successful circuits around the yard! As expected, our students took part with boundless enthusiasm and gave generously to the worthy cause. Fundraising for Sport Relief will continue until the end of term with one of our ever-popular Bake Sales and an Egg Decorating Competition on the last day.

Fundraising is an important part of Academy life at King James and we work hard throughout the year to organise a variety of fundraising events to support both local and national charities. Not only do events such as these encourage our young people to get involved in helping their local community, but they are also an important way of promoting a sense of belonging and wellbeing in our school.
