Mr Grieveson was recently delighted to receive an email from a local gentleman who wanted to express his appreciation to three of our students who showed true community spirit and kindness towards his wife following an accident in town.

Year 11 student, Natalie, pictured here, along with Year 9 students, Simone and Chantelle, witnessed an accident which left the lady unconscious and lying in a pool of water following heavy rain. On regaining consciousness it was clear that the lady was in shock and in considerable pain, however the girls remained calm, helping her to a nearby shop and waiting with her until the ambulance arrived 45 minutes later.

Mr C said in his email, "Throughout the ordeal, the girls showed a great deal of concern and aptitude. They helped to make my wife comfortable, kept her talking to raise her spirits and supplied her with water to drink to help prevent a relapse. Not all people would react in this way – many would have turned the other cheek and passed us by."

Mr Grieveson congratulated the girls for their quick thinking and caring attitude, and presented each with a King James I Academy "Community Involvement Award' to recognise the importance of their actions. "I am always pleased to celebrate the academic achievements of our students," he said, "but I am equally proud to acknowledge good deeds such as this, which highlight the mature and caring attitudes that we see our young people demonstrate every day in school."
