Once again, our Year 13 trip to Glastonbury Festival was an unforgettable experience for members of the Volunteer Recycling Team. Launched three years ago by Mr Longstaff as a work experience trip, the opportunity has now become a highlight of our Sixth Form calendar.

In exchange for their tickets, our team, consisting of 8 students and 3 junior leaders, accompanied by Mr Longstaff, Assistant Head Teacher, worked alongside the thousands of volunteers who litter-pick each morning to keep the site clean.

With working shifts starting at 6.00am each morning, it's fair to say that the trip requires committment and stamina, however participants are always keen to point out that it is a small price to pay for the amazing experience that Glastonbury offers.

This year, students got to see stunning shows from headliners, Muse, Adele and Coldplay, alongside iconic performers such as ELO, Madness, ZZ Top, Cyndi Lauper and Fat Boy Slim. There was even a surprise Sunday night rendition of "My Way' from the great Michael Eavis himself.

"I can honestly say that Glastonbury has been the best weekend of my life", said Matthew H. "The atmosphere was unreal and I am a complete convert; I intend to go every year from now on. I would recommend applying to every Sixth Former because if you are lucky enough to get a place, you'll enjoy every minute."

At King James we pride ourselves not only on the diverse range of courses we offer and the unrivalled level of support, but also on the opportunities we create for Sixth Form students to build confidence, independence and social skills through experiences such as this.

As part of the project, and thanks to various fundraising activities, the team were also able to donate £500 to the Glastonbury charities, Water Aid, Greenpeace and Oxfam.
