A group of Year 10 boys have been learning about a career in Engineering thanks to industry-focused sessions with Hydram Engineering.

Working with Mrs Dent to develop their employability skills, students are being mentored by staff and young apprentices at the company, which is one of the largest precision metal fabrication companies in the UK.

The first part of the programme involved a visit to the Hydram plant in Chilton, where students received a guided tour and talked to some of the current Engineering Apprentices. This was followed by a workshop in school with dexterity texts and activities which focused on communication and team working skills.

The sessions were organised with a view to spotting potential and helping students to understand the skills and attitude needed to be successful in gaining an apprenticeship with Hydram. The programme also helps students focus on the GCSE results they will need to achieve for a career in Engineering.
