As part of our committment to improving literacy skills, we are currently developing and introducing a number of new learning resources. Literacy Learning Walls and Mats are now a feature of every classroom.

This new initiative means that each classroom now has a bespoke "learning wall' display, which clearly highlights key words and technical terminology relevant to the subject. Walls, which are customised by our teachers to suit the subject they teach and the needs of their learners, act as a quick visual reference point to help students improve their written work by including more complex vocabulary and sentence structures.

Accompanying A4 size literacy mats, pictured here, are again created by individual teachers according to their subject, however typically, they display terminology, a punctuation guide, alternative word suggestions and tips for linking sentences and structuring arguments; when writing an essay, this is an excellent supporting tool.
