Music students in Years 11 and 12 have been reviving the sounds of the "80s in preparation for a themed concert, which will be held at Bishop Auckland Town Hall in May. "Back to the "80s' will feature classics such as Madonna's "Get into the Groove', Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give you Up' and Womack and Womack's "Footsteps'; combined with a themed disco it will certainly be a night to remember!

As part of their studies in genre, Mr Smith, our Director of Learning for Music, wanted students to fully explore the diversity that the decade has to offer. In doing this, students have selected a set list that includes songs from rock and pop to disco.

The fundraising performance will be organised by Year 13 Music students as part of their BTEC studies; the Level 3 course, which prepares students for a diverse range of careers in the music industry, includes events management, music theory, recording and performance techniques.

"Despite their initial misgivings about the decade our students have completely embraced the project," said Mr Smith. "They have even investigated and planned 1980's costume to ensure authenticity and to enhance the overall experience for the audience. We have some very talented musicians at King James; I am sure everyone will be impressed by the quality of the show."
