KJ Linked - Weekly Learning Toolkit

29/06/2020 - KJ Linked Issue 13 released!

As you will have seen, the Government is encouraging secondary schools to consider a partial return for Year 10 and Year 12 students from Monday 1st June 2020. Our view continues to be that it is important that we take appropriate, extensive and considered actions to assure the safety of all members of our school community to make the right decision at the right time.

Interactivity Week 29th June 2020 Week A

This is our most interactive online learning week ever. Starting on Monday 29th June, we will be launching our ‘Interactivity Week’; a week in which teachers will be supporting engaging learning through a greater emphasis on virtual, face to-face learning. We want all of our students to take part and to provide us with some feedback.

Every day, students in all year groups will be able to access at least one real-time online lesson, taught by one of their brilliant King James teachers. They will be able to log in to a live video conference call from home and use a code provided by their teacher to enter a virtual ‘waiting room’. This code will ensure a high level of security, as teachers will only grant access to the ‘classroom’ to authorised participants

Once inside the virtual classroom, students will be able to see their teachers, ask questions and get instant feedback. They will also be able to see and communicate with their peers; this will help to restore a little normality and structure to our students’ lives.

Our teachers will make use of Google Meet to support lesson delivery and this will work perfectly on the Google Chromebook computers that we have provided to the majority of our Year 7 to Year 10 students.

This week, Miss Reynolds trialled the concept with her Year 8 English class with great success. Students were able to see a powerpoint presentation and discuss their ideas with Miss Reynolds direct. They could also ask and answer questions as if they were in school, and all were very happy to be reunited with their classmates.

Mrs Aitkin and Miss Davies have also held some Google Meetings with Sixth Form students in Art and Media and these were also well received.

As our Interactivity Week gets underway, we would like you to let your teachers know if this way of supporting learning is effective. If it works well, we will add more interactive lessons over the following weeks.

Online Learning Timetable

Hope everyone is well and staying safe. After feedback from our parents, carers, students and teachers we are changing the way we set work on Class Charts. The new weekly timetable for you is attached.

Students will receive work for up to three subjects per day and we have allocated a specific time during which your child can interact with their teacher. Contact information for each teacher will be posted along with the online work.

We have changed the format for work-setting to make it more manageable and interactive and also to provide dedicated time, if you requires it, to access teacher support.  The new timetable will start from Monday 8th June.  You should log on to Class Charts, as normal, to see your work for the day and the time when your teacher will be available. Once you have completed work that day, you need to submit the work to be checked by your teacher.

We hope this better supports you in not having too much work each day. Attached is also a staff Gmail address but your teacher should put this on the homework set too.

Keep going your doing a fab job. If you have struggled so far now is the time to get yourself logging back on and starting some work before school starts again in September. Keep going stay safe and we will see you again soon.
