August 2020

Dear Parents / Carers

We are looking forward to welcoming back our existing students, and also to welcoming our new Year 7 and Year 12 students, to King James next week.

Well done to our students, parents and staff for continuing to support education since March.  110,855 pieces of work have been set and completed during the period of lockdown - this is a huge achievement!

Our teachers and support staff have worked tirelessly to help our students and to keep in touch.  Despite the many challenges we have all faced, the King James team has never been stronger.  All members of the school community have worked hard and have been there for each other.

As we look forward to a new and different academic year we have a solid foundation upon which to build.  We have prepared our school and we are confident and ready for the further challenges we might face.  The health and safety of our students and staff is our priority and we have put in place numerous measures to ensure that we can continue to deliver high quality learning opportunities in a safe environment.

Congratulations to our GCSE and Sixth Form students who, despite the many challenges, managed to gain credit for all of their hard work over many years and had lots to celebrate on their results days.  The class of 2020 will forever be remembered and now forms part of the illustrious history of King James.  Students will be remembered not only for their achievement but also for their resilience and determination against the odds.

We have faced and defeated the challenges of 2019-20 and we are now refreshed and ready to face, I hope, a quieter year ahead.

I would like to wish students, parents, staff and friends of King James a happy new (academic) year, when the time comes, and I hope that you and your families enjoy good health, happiness and prosperity for the year ahead.

Best wishes

Nick Grieveson

  • Year 11 GCSE & Vocational results day: Thursday 20th August 2020

Advice and support, remotely, for all students on results days, will be on hand.

Stay safe on Social Media

We have received a notification this morning which has suggested that young people in Bishop Auckland are being targeted by someone who is hacking their social media accounts. Passwords are then changed and children are being asked to do inappropriate things in order to regain access. We would ask that parents  continue to monitor their child's social media accounts in order to make sure they stay safe. If you receive an email asking you to reveal or reset your password it may be a phishing attempt. Please remember to change your password on a regular basis or if you feel it has become known by someone else.

Year 11 Students Preparing For Sixth Form

Remote learning is now available for students wishing to continue into 6th form, at King James and all other 6th form pathways. Work can be accessed as usual via classcharts where new classes have been set up for this preparatory work. Also work can  be found on google classrooms, and students should check their gmail accounts for invites to join up. Should you have any questions please contact Mrs Nicholson on the form here

Year 11 Students Waiting to Start Careers or Other Further Education

While you are waiting to start career and Further Education pathways, you can now access work that will support your transition. Any questions should be directed to Mrs Stead or Anne Goddard.

No Computer? Use Your Phones!

TOP TIP for students and parents - If you are struggling to access a computer, or you are sharing a computer, why not use your phone to access Class Charts and find home-work that can be completed in the exercise book you have been given.  When you have completed the work, take a photograph and email it back to your teacher.

Free School Meal Phishing Scam Emails

We have been informed that some parents have received an email stating the following:

‘As schools will be closing, if you're entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we'll make sure you're supported’.

I would just like to confirm this is a scam email and is not from the Academy / Local Authority. We urge you and parents that if you receive any emails like this, please do not respond and delete it immediately.
